TRAX S. Society, in coordination with the Agartala Traffic Police and Agartala Municipal Corporation, successfully conducted a trial run of the traffic management plan at Hapania Junction, Agartala, from 4 to 14 July 2024. The initiative focused on improving traffic flow, pedestrian safety, lane discipline and junction management near the International Fair Ground. The trial assessed proposed changes in road markings, traffic islands, pedestrian crossings, designated halting spaces and safer U-turn facilities.

The trial demonstrated significant improvements in road safety and traffic management. Lane markings helped reduce zigzag movement and encouraged better lane discipline, while designated bus and auto-rickshaw halting spaces reduced unauthorized stopping and congestion. Pedestrian crossings, traffic islands and barriers were introduced at critical locations to provide safer movement for pedestrians. Safer, single-lane U-turn arrangements and improved road markings also helped reduce conflict points and guide vehicles more effectively through the junction.

Based on the successful outcome of the trial, the proposed interventions at Hapania Junction were found effective in addressing key traffic and pedestrian safety challenges. The initiative highlights TRAX S. Society’s commitment to implementing practical, evidence-based road safety solutions and sustainable traffic management interventions. The experience provides a strong model for permanent improvements at Hapania Junction, supported by continuous monitoring, public awareness and stakeholder coordination to create safer and more efficient roads for all road users.
