TRAX has emerged as a leading force in helmet safety advocacy in India, driving policy reforms, public awareness, enforcement support, and community engagement to protect powered two-wheeler riders.
Through flagship initiatives such as Helmet India Coalition, Ride To Safety (ICICI Lombard), Safe Riders’ Seminar (Meyer Organics), Safe Road Users Initiative (Eicher Foundation), SATARK (Bridgestone), Road Safety Rangers (Universal Sompo), and YOUth Drive For Safety (L&T Finance), TRAX has promoted the adoption of BIS-certified helmets and responsible riding practices across the country.
Our advocacy efforts have focused on the implementation of Section 129 of the Motor Vehicles Act, nationwide adoption of Rule 138(4)(f) of the CMVR, inclusion of helmets in the mandatory BIS products list, child helmet safety, and action against fake and substandard helmets.
Key achievements include:
- Created the Helmet India Coalition, a network of 35+ NGOs across India.
- Advocated for implementation of Rule 138(4)(f) in 14 States and 6 Union Territories.
- Conducted helmet crash demonstrations exposing the dangers of fake helmets.
- Engaged 59 professional rider groups in helmet safety awareness.
- Trained transport and enforcement officials across 9+ States.
- Supported action against counterfeit helmet manufacturers and retailers.
- Led nationwide digital and on-ground helmet safety campaigns.
A landmark achievement was the successful advocacy that contributed to the amendment of the Himachal Pradesh Motor Vehicle Rules, strengthening helmet safety regulations through a Gazette Notification issued on 1 August 2024.
